With a lead pack of 6 at the halfway mark, this is a fun one to watch. It remains tight all the way up Reservoir but you just knew that the 800 speedster was going to become a distant sight for the leaders on that big down slope. He breaks 15 minutes on the toughest 3-miler (nearly) in the country and joins an elite list. Goes on to take the D2 championship at State.

But, it is the team battle that is the feature in this race. The field is packed tightly together with Mira Costa, Ayala, Ventura and Claremont all making strong challenges for the Southern Section crown. Ventura was serious about pack running with a team separation time of only 15 seconds. Their performance at State the following Saturday was nearly a duplicate. The second best pack-running team were the Southern Section Champs from Mira Costa, led by the junior-senior duo of Martin & O'Meara. They followed this up with the 3rd place finish at State, the strongest of the Southern Section teams again.
