Connor Burns, an Oregon-bound senior at Southern Boone County High in Missouri, finished fifth in the second section of the men's 5000 meters in 13:37.30 at the On Running Track Fest at Hilmer Lodge Stadium at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, Calif., to eclipse the national high school record of 13:37.91 established in 2004 by Galen Rupp of Central Catholic High in Oregon. Burns became the first prep athlete to run a sub-4 mile and sub-13:50 in the 5000. Burns also elevated to the No. 6 all-time American U20 competitor in the outdoor 5000.
