There were nine title defences from male athletes at this year's 2022 European Athletics Championships in Munich.
Jakob Ingebrigtsen defended both his 1500m and 5000m title won four years ago in Berlin, with Karsten Warholm (400m hurdles), Alvaro Martin (20km race walk), Matthew Hudson-Smith (400m) and the GB & NI 4x100 relay team also defending their title on the track.
In the field, Mondo Duplantis broke his own championship record in the pole vault to win gold, Miltiadis Tentoglou also set a new championship record as he defended his long jump title and Wojciech Nowicki added a second European gold to his Olympic gold he won at Tokyo 2020.
