This year some 60,000 entered the Great North Run from Newcastle to South Shields - including my daughter Hayley who came up from Great Yarmouth to complete her 5th or 6th run. It was a lovely warm day and some runners were overwhelmed with the heat giving the medics on duty work to do. Because of the inormous amount of cost, the run could not be cancelled because of the Queen's death but a minutes silence was taken at the start of the race.
