Pace-Maker van Buskirk (CAN) set the pace, the split times were 34.4s (200m, 12 laps to go), 71.23s (11 laps to go), 69.41s (after 1400m done, and 9 laps to go), 70.30s (8 laps to go), PM van Buskirk steps out after 2000m (last km = 2:54.96). World Champion Obiri (KEN) takes the lead, the split time is 70.32s (7 laps to go), after 3000m the split time for the last km is 2:55.41 (5 laps to go) with Obiri (KEN) in the lead, 69.08s (4 laps to go) there are now 7 athletes in the lead group with Obiri setting the pace, 70.66s (3 laps to go), McColgan (GBR) starts moving up as athletes start to falter, and as Kipkemboi (KEN) takes the lead and starts drilling it, 69.88s (2 laps to go), 69.62s (at the Bell), Kipkemboi, Obiri, Worku (ETH), McColgan (GBR); with 300m to go Obiri takes the lead, and at the last turn Obiri lets it rip, she crosses the Finish Line 1st in 14:26.38, an SB for the Kenyan Superstar. 11 athletes have either a PB or SB, even an NR.
